The tanning industry in Ireland is booming and is now worth over €500m.
The number of companies in Ireland has increased from 2,500 in 2011 to 2,800 today.
The boom is also taking place in Ireland’s most important tanning district, Cork city.
There are now more than 2,000 tanning companies operating in Cork city alone.
The number of people working in tanning in Ireland jumped by 60 per cent from 2011 to 2015, according to data compiled by the Business and Industry Commission of Ireland.
It shows that the number of tanning jobs has more than doubled over the same period.
Tanning is the process of heating a body, usually with chemicals such as benzene and ethylene, to remove excess skin and prevent wrinkles.
It is a major part of the Irish economy and is the largest industry in the country.
